Dang Kai! Van’s Inspired Birthday

You all may be familiar with the high schooler, Damn Daniel, who took the cyber world by storm when he and his friend made a stream of videos about the Van’s slip on shoes he wore.  Daniel and his friend have appeared on day time television show, Ellen and is now a catchy tune found on many YouTube videos.

When we were approached with the idea from Kai, the birthday boy himself, who knew exactly what he wanted, we set forth and conquered the inevitable.  Vans isn’t a theme found in your local party or craft store, which is why we were approached.  This theme took creative genius!  So I enlisted some of my favorite vendors to help me pull the design elements together for his Van’s inspired party, called Vans headquarters and requested some of their branded stickers which they were happy to send out, and visited the local Vans store and asked for mini shopping bags which were used as goodie bags and any other free memorabilia they had.  We scored BIG!

If you focus your attention on the miniature skateboards on the table, you will see what appears to be a single element, BUT it took us and three other vendors to make the skateboards.  The frame was custom made by Laser Cat Design which is based in Virginia Beach.  After speaking with the owner and explained what I was looking for, within a few hours a template was sitting in my inbox waiting on approval.  Next was the color of the skateboard which took some trial and error.  After several attempts and a mission to avoid acrylic paint, we turned to trusty contact paper, which you can purchase from your local craft store or get it delivered to your doorstep by Amazon.  Lastly, the catch phrase.  The catch phrase was designed by Elite Events and Kreations’ very own creative genius, Shakeya.  This lady is the guru at all things vinyl!  With the help of these ladies I was able to create Kai’s skateboard decorations.

What party would be a party without yummies?  The table was decked (see what I did there, skateboards are also called decks) with Kai’s favorite foods, pretzel bun hotdogs and BBQ wings from our local Krogers.  The custom cookies which looked amazing and might I add delicious, were made by Beatrice of Divine Party Planning.  The children absolutely loved them and were able to take one home in their goodie bag packed with Vans inspired goodness.
